Mental Attitude:
Is anyone listening? All the hub-bub about the swine flu outbreak has got a lot of people worried and confused as to what to do. The experts are saying that this confusion is caused in part by how da’ Gubment is releasing the info to us. The experts say this is the best way to devulge any serious info: Be honest (a novel concept) even if it’s not good news, Alerts should only contain the most pertenent facts, Emotional directives may make us not choose rational actions, Evaluate whether your information is reasonable for your audience and Treat people like adults. What world is da’ Gubment living in? American Psychological Association May 3, 2009
Health Alert :
What me worry? Here are 7 reasons not to freak out over the Swine Flu: 1) Most cases so far have been mild without the need for hospitalization, 2) You are not defenseless against this flu, use common sense strategies (wash your hands, don’t sneeze on people, keep your fingers out of your orifaces) 3) Swine Flu has so far acted like every other flu that comes around, 4) We don’t know if this flu will fizzle out or grow exponentially (think positively), 5) How much do you worry about the “regular flu”? 6) If things do get worse we are more prepared to handle emergencies than ever, 7) Pandemic means wide-spread not deadly, most pandemics are mild. Web MD Press Release May 3, 2009
Diet :
Ah, nutz. Just when we forget about peanuts and pistachios now we get to worry about raw alfalfa sprouts. Say it ain’t so Joe. Yep, they have had outbreaks of Salmonella poisoning back east so… skip da’ sprouts for now. I’m really gonna be mad if they ever find Salmonella in lasagna… Food and Drug Administration Press Release May 3, 2009
Exercise :
I’m hip. Has knee pain ever stopped you from getting exercise? (I am currently batteling a nasty knee problem so I had better listen up.) New research has shown that there is a strong correlation between knee pain and hip problems on that side. Specifically, the hip doesn’t move externally and won’t abduct (move outward) which causes the hip to force the knee to misalign. (I see these problems every day and this “new research” has been common knowledge to us “quacks” for years.) Tell me if you ever have knee pain A.S.A.P. ( My hips are in alignment, thank-you very much.) Journal of Athletic Training Jan.-Feb. 2009
Chiropractic :
Flu like the wind. Prior to the advent of antibiotics, Chiropractors were known to treat infectious diseases and had a pretty good reputation as such. (You won’t hear this from your M.D.) During the Great Flu Epidemic of 1918 where over 25% of the world died from the Avian flu, it was common knowledge that those who were known to frequent a Chiropractor DID NOT DIE. Say What? In studies done by Chiropractors we have found that the connection of the nerve system to the immune system is strengthened by 50% or more when a person has regular Chiropractic care. This is why I ain’t worried ’bout no stinkin’ flu bug. If the current swine flu gets worse, get all you know in for care, if you care. Dr. Bell
Wellness/Prevention :
Give one, get one. Remember all the flap over Gardasil a while back? Gardasil is the vaccine given to young girls (as early as 9 years old) to prevent cervical cancer. We were told it t’was safe and to get in line. Well, guess what? A small % of these young women can get a pretty serious neurological disease called Guillain- Barre Syndrome. This “side effect” causes paralysis to one side of the body and can be serious. Our F.D.A. has gone on record as saying these cases are not cause for concern. ( Unless it’s their kid…) The first time we saw G.B.S. was when people were getting vaccinations for the swine flu in 1976-1977. Good Lawd… American Academy of Neurology’s 61st Annual Meeting 4/25-5/2 2009
