Mental Attitude:

Play on, player. Have we forgotten how to play? (Yes) Some scientists are now stating that the ability to play socially in work and leisure is paramount to our survival via our ability to interact with others. (Amen.) It seems earlier ancestors used play time to ease tensions amongst the clan which lead to a more productive society. On the other hand , they believe that organized activities such as Little league, takes the fun out of the activity thus eliminating any social improvement. So, get out of the way and let’s all play. Yeah…. American Journal of Play April 2009

Health Alert :

Blue in the face. Hold onto your hats but the E.P.A. (Environmental Protection Agency) has just finished a two year study (ordered by the Supreme Court) that says that greenhouse gases are very HARMFUL to all living things. They state these gases can or do cause diseases such as: Asthma, heat stroke, infectious diseases, drownings due to rising water levels, more wildfires and water quality diseases. Wait fo’ it… The Supreme Court has ruled that the E.P.A. can regulate ( read: CONTROL THE OUTPUT) of these gases if they deem them to be a threat to ya’ll. They just did!! It’s gonna get weird from here on out. P.S. Don’t hold your breath waiting fo’ someone with common sense to come to our rescue. Environmental Protection Agency docket # EPA-HQ-OAR-2009-0171

Diet :

I found my thrill. Deep breath.. The latest is to eat mo’ blueberries. These tantalizing morsels are showing promise in the reduction of belly fat. Say What? Yes, belly fat. These researchers feel that this could help lower the incidence of heart disease and diabetes (commonly associated with belly fat). They also claim these berries could help reduce cholesterol levels, even if the diet isn’t “heart healthy” and has been shown to reduce tonnage in those partaking. Hey, it’s worked on rats, why not us. Stay tuned. Experimental Biology 2009

Exercise :

The power of the prescription pad. It has come to this. Medical doctors are beginning to write their patients prescriptions fo exercise and guess what? The patients are exercising mo’. The Good: No one dies from physical fitness, exercise has so many benefits it ain’t funny no mo’. (See every “Health Update” I have ever written!!!) Side note: I saw a person in Frys buying a WII exercise game because his M.D. had prescribed it. The Bad: M.D.’s aren’t trained in exercise prescriptions. The Ugly: Not many M.D’s are participating in this health craze. Too bad. Why not get the drop on them and get to work, now drop and give me 20. (Here’s your prescription). Chiropractic :

Experimental, my butt. It has come to our attention that most of your insurance companies are not paying fo’ our S-EMG scans claiming they are experimental in nature and thus they are not required to pay for them. These scans are being taught in ALL chiropractic colleges and have been scientifically proven to be of benefit in the detection of “myopathology” which is directly associated with subluxations. The Florida Chiropractic Association successfully sued the insurance companies in their state to get paid for this valuable diagnostic test and so should we!!! ( Don’t hold your breath on this one). Wellness/Prevention :

7 will get you 16. When you factor out da’ kids (see last weeks Update) couples who are bored with their marriage at year 7 are really likely to be dissatisfied with their marriage at year 16. (If they make it that far.) However, satisfaction at year 7 did not guarantee satisfaction at year 16. These researchers say that if partners experience excitement from outside sources while together they will have a higher satisfaction rate at years 7 and 16. Sounds like we need to play mo’.
